i think it is a fabulous idea, as a crafter myself and a lover of things handmade. here's the organization's reasoning for buying handmade:

The ascendancy of chain store culture and global manufacturing has left us all dressing, furnishing, and decorating alike. The connection between producer and consumer has been lost. Buying handmade helps them reconnect.

I love this concept! Not much of a crafter myself, but as you know I love to give your goodies as gifts. The recipient always is awestruck by the adorability/individuality!
